by Cecilia Fox...TIPP CITY — Returning to Miami County for the first time in more than 20 years, Barbara Huston was overwhelmed by memories.

“I’ve been on such a roller coaster,” she said.

Her late husband Scott was the county’s first park district director and she had not been back to the area since his memorial service.

Huston, standing at the waterfall overlook in Charleston Falls Preserve, said she was overwhelmed, but pleased to see how the parks have grown.

Twin Arch has 35 acres and .7 miles of trail. It sits along the Great Miami River and is a great place for hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and viewing wildlife. Stillwater has 309 acres with 5.69 miles of trails that go through varying ecosystems, making it a perfect place to hike or cross-county ski. Enjoy one of the two shelters with electricity and grill for your next picnic or sit at one of the benches to bird watch. Click on the link to view the brochure map for Stillwater Prairie.

Maple Ridge has 120 acres of rolling hills with over 2.5 miles of trail. It’s a wonderful place to hike, fish and observe wildlife. One unique feature of this Reserve is the sugar house which was rebuilt as a replica from past decades. Click on the tabs below to find out more!

Lost Creek is the largest park with 457 acres of landscape.  It has 5.75 miles of trail that takes you past farm fields, through wooded areas and along Lost Creek making this Reserve a great place for hiking, cross country skiing and viewing wildlife.
